Ian qualified as a solicitor in 1986 and joined Prettys in 1987. He has been a partner in the Corporate and Commercial Law Department since 1989 and the firm’s senior partner since 2010.
Ian advises on all aspects of non-contentious corporate and commercial work, in the public and private sectors including governance, outsourcing, mergers, acquisitions and disposals, joint venture and other trading arrangements and lending, security and other banking issues.
Ian also has expertise in insolvency law and advises directors and shareholders on restructuring exercises and insolvency practitioners on a regular basis. Ian is very well known in the East Anglian business community. He is a member of R3, and has been involved in a number of locally based development initiatives.

Melissa graduated from the University of Hull in 2012 with a degree in Law with French Law and Language. In her third year, she studied French law at l’Université de Grenoble and obtained the Diplôme de Droit Français. She then went on to study the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School in Cambridge, where she obtained a distinction.
Melissa joined Prettys as a trainee solicitor in September 2015, having already gained experience in a variety of legal work experience placements and also as a legal secretary for a local sole solicitor and a well-respected regional law firm in East Anglia.
Melissa is currently in her third seat in the Estates and Financial Planning department, having completed seats in the Employment department and the Dispute Resolution and Construction department. Her recent work includes:
