Prettys' Construction Unit draws together the firm’s expertise in construction, enabling us to provide a unified and multi-disciplinary service. The unit has expertise in non-contentious project work as well as contentious matters and represents the interests of a number of regional, national and institutional clients.
Projects
We advise employers, main contractors, funders and consultants in relation to all aspects of the documentation of projects and associated risk management.
Through understanding our client’s role in relation to and the nature of the project we are able to identify the key issues and to draft, advise and negotiate accordingly.
We are regularly instructed to draft, advise on or negotiate
- Bespoke contracts
- Amendments to standard forms
- Collateral warranties
- Bonds
- Guarantees
- Security documentation
- Conferring of rights via The Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999
- Consultants’ appointments
Dispute Resolution
We also advise on the resolution of construction disputes through the courts, by arbitration, adjudication and various forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution, including mediation.
The team also draws upon the strengths of the firm’s experienced insurance team, which complements our construction expertise with its experience and knowledge of fire, property damage, professional indemnity and insurance issues. The team also provides advice and assistance in relation to personal injury and health and safety.
Prettys is a panel firm and a member of the National Federation of Builders, and is active through members of the team in the Forum for the Built Environment, the Working Well Together Health and Safety Initiative and The Haven Gateway Partnership.
