Prettys Continues to Support ISCRE

July 2016

Donation to Tackling Discrimination in the East

Prettys donated to ISCRE’s Tackling Discrimination in the East Project this May.  ISCRE had applied for funding from the Big Lottery Fund to support the project, but required interim funding to allow the project to continue (it costs around £200 a day to run the project).

Audrey Ludwig, of ISCRE said:

"We are most grateful to Prettys for the kind donation towards our Tackling Discrimination in the East project. The money will be used to continue to give vital legal advice and casework for local victims of unlawful discrimination of any kind to help them get justice and access to work and services. Our clients are mostly the working poor, many of them disabled and cannot afford to pay a lawyer to assist them. Prettys have always been very supportive of all our Law Advice Centre work and several of their staff are among our 70  legal volunteers".

Prettys' trainees – stepping up to the pro bono line

Prettys’ trainee solicitors regularly volunteer at ISCRE’s Law Advice Centre providing pro bono legal advice to members of the community.

Ann Barber, of ISCRE said:

“Since December 2013 I have been privileged to work with over 70 local lawyers who now volunteer at the Suffolk Law Advice Centre, providing pro bono advice to disadvantaged Suffolk people.

Pretty’s trainees have been, and remain, a stalwart part of the bigger team – volunteering their time and skills and providing two general advice clinics every 3 months. Some trainees have remained on our rota after qualifying – demonstrating their genuine commitment to pro bono work, rather than just gathering kudos for their CV’s!

Whilst the trainees’ legal research and advice is overseen by qualified Pretty’s lawyers [as for all our trainee volunteers], we have been impressed by their personal dedication to ensuring access to justice and their willingness to go the extra mile for the clients, whenever possible.

They support us in many other ways: turning up during their lunch breaks to help out on our pro bono market stall – despite wet and windy weather; attending our annual fundraiser quiz; the annual 10km Legal Walk as well as offering extra daily pro bono sessions, during pro bono week for the last 2 years.

We value their support and so do the people of Suffolk!”
