About Prettys

Trainee recruitment

Start your career at Prettys

Prettys' trainees are regarded as the key to our future and are given considerable support and responsibility. They also receive salaries above Law Society guidelines.

We recruit graduates who combine academic achievement with a practical and commercial approach to problem solving. We seek self-assured individuals with a client centred approach and ability to work effectively in a team.

An induction programme introduces trainees to the firm. This comprises a mix of social opportunities to meet the partners, fee earners and second year trainees, and an introduction to the work of the department into which they are starting. A second-year trainee will act as a mentor during the early weeks in the firm.

Training seminars are offered in-house. The PSC is taken externally and is, of course, funded. Training is provided on the job and through formal courses. Feedback is aimed to be positive and constructive.

We aim to ensure that by the time trainees qualify they will be proficient in legal research and drafting, interviewing and advising clients and will have developed effective work management skills.

Ideally we aim to offer all our trainees a job at the end of their training contract. A job offer depends on a number of factors, not least performance during the training contract and the availability of jobs within any particular department.

The Law Society's Monitoring of Training Officer recently visited us and concluded "Prettys offers a very strong commitment to training within a supportive environment".
