Experience life at a leading law firm
Prettys is committed to providing work experience for pupils attending local schools and to University/LPC students interested in a career as a solicitor. As lawyers in Chelmsford and Ipswich, we see this as an important part of working with young people in our community and providing access to and information about the careers in law.
A structured one week programme of work experience is available to pupils from school Year 10 and students who are on law degrees or further legal studies. Work experience will be available on designated dates throughout the year with specific weeks being allocated to schools or students without overlap. School work experience pupils are limited to one week only. University/LPC students will normally only be offered one week of work experience. The limit on the number of weeks is to offer maximum candidate opportunity for students interested in finding out more about being a solicitor in Ipswich or Chelmsford.
Each programme will run between 9.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday with lunch from 1.00pm to 2.00pm. At the commencement of each week participants will receive a health & safety briefing and an induction. The programme aims to provide a broad spectrum of experience typically covering five areas of law selected by us from corporate, estates, family, commercial litigation, commercial property, shipping, personal injury and employment. One day is spent in five of the eight areas observing, researching and performing a range of legal tasks. University/LPC students are offered an optional 30 minute presentation opportunity to a partner or senior solicitor.
