Preparation for the Workplace programme

Our corporate and disputes lawyers Miz Choudhury and Emma Champion volunteered for the Enterprise in Education Partnership’s “Preparation for the Workplace” programme for year 11 pupils at Beauchamps High School, Wickford on 12 February 2016. This was one of a number of programmes designed to prepare students for the workplace by giving them guidance on many aspects of preparing for a job vacancy. The students look at how to access the job market and identify the skills required to make a successful application with a view to securing an interview.  The event Miz and Emma attended was a greatly valued opportunity for these pupils to practice their interview skills in a risk-free environment and to help prepare them for the road ahead, whether in further education or in the workplace.

The charity had sought volunteers to conduct ten minute mock interviews with the students.  The interviews saw Miz and Emma and the other volunteers pretending to be local cinema managers recruiting staff to match a specific job description.  Following each interview the interviewers completed feedback forms for each of the student, with the aim being to help them improve their respective interview performances in the future.  Emma was also pleased to discuss legal careers informally with one student who had expressed her strong interest in a legal career.

More recently, Emma Champion and Josie Beal have also volunteered for the same scheme at Grays Convent High School, New Hall School and Great Baddow School.
