WORK SYNOPSIS:

Georgina’s route into law best illustrates Prettys’ support of and commitment to all routes to legal qualification. Georgina joined Prettys’ Family team as a secretary in 1999; qualified as a legal executive in 2003; and as a solicitor in 2006. She became Partner and Head of Family in April 2019.

EXPERTISE:

Georgina advises clients on all issues arising from family matters including divorce, financial resolution, children disputes whether concerning parents, step-parents or grandparents, cohabitation agreements, injunctive work, pre-and post-nuptial agreements, interveners and financial resolution following overseas divorce.

Georgina is recommended as a Leading Individual in Legal 500 and continues to be primarily known and recommended for her litigation work in complex financial and children cases.  Georgina has an eye for detail and a forensic approach, and is respected by solicitors and barrister alike.  She is easily able to hold her own against much larger nationally renowned firms despite being one solicitor against what is often a multi-solicitor or team-approach model adopted by larger firms on the other side.  She is able to offer a London quality service at provincial rates, which is attractive to litigating clients feeling the financial pinch, and has won clients from international London-based firms who want this benefit.

Georgina regularly receives referrals from lawyers at larger firms who want her on the other side, or for whom they are conflicted in acting for the client, and is recommended by local barristers as a safe pair of hands.  She strives to offer the same high quality of service to clients, whatever their circumstances, so that they feel well cared for and so that they can access justice in whatever form they seek, whether inside or outside of a courtroom.

Georgina is also a trained mediator and member of Resolution. She is committed to resolving family matters outside court wherever possible, but is also an experienced litigator for those cases that cannot avoid court.

RECENT WORK:

  • Representing an international footballer in fast-moving legal proceedings, including a worldwide freezing injunction
  • Acting for individuals living abroad who have litigation in England
  • Resolving consensually a divorce involving significant spousal maintenance arrears and a warrant for committal
  • Working round table to resolve disputes involving assets in England and abroad
  • Successfully concluding complex and lengthy multi-layer children litigation in a number of cases involving allegations of rape, sexual assault, physical assault, mental health issues and parental alienation
  • Managing urgent children work on behalf of a number of grandparents who have intervened to protect the safety and wellbeing of their grandchildren
  • Acting for interveners (whether voluntary or involuntary) in financial cases and successfully avoiding them being drawn any further into litigation
  • Conducting litigation following a lottery win, including a successful appeal
  • Managing inside and outside of the court system divorces involving valuable business interests and significant inheritances of one or both spouses
  • Concluding a number of high-value pre-and post-nuptial agreements
