Matthew Cole and Angharad Ellis Owen hosted the first ever employment training webinar for almost 70 people on Thursday 9th June.

The hot topic for discussion was the impact of the forthcoming EU referendum on employment law and included an overview of legislation brought in through the EU such as working time directives and rights for paid leave as well as a discussion on the possible outcomes should the vote be in favour of Brexit.

Feedback from webinar attendee Mandy Cross, a HR advisor at Greenfields Community Housing said, “It was really useful and interesting to see what the potential impact of an exit could have on employment law.”

An opinion poll was run at the start and end of the webinar to gauge how attendees were likely to vote. At the start of the session, 44% said they would consider voting to remain while 19% would vote to leave and the remaining 37% were still undecided.

Following the webinar which outlined the impact of the EU on the UK’s employment laws, a second poll was run which revealed a slight shift in votes with an increase in remain votes (45%) and a decrease in leave votes (10%). The remaining 30% were still undecided.

Interestingly, on a separate question, almost half of attendees (45%) did not believe there was sufficient information available to make a decision.

Webinar host Matthew Cole said, “Our first employment training webinar was a great success. The EU referendum is a hot topic and it is interesting to see how many people are still undecided on how they will vote with just two weeks until polling day. For many people, it is still challenging to find out enough information to make a considered decision so I hope our webinar today help fill in some of the details around employment law.”
