Proposal for amending permitted development rules for Mobile Phone masts

In its efforts to speed up the deployment of 5G mobile and extended network coverage and generally to expand the digital economy,  the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and the Ministry of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport are undertaking a consultation on proposals to expand permitted development rights (PD rights) in England for mobile network operators.

The reformed the Electronic Communications Code is making it cheaper and easier for mobile phone companies to install, maintain and upgrade communications equipment, and the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) includes planning policy to support the expansion of electronic communications networks. These consultation  proposals seek to further reduce the number of occasions where planning permission or prior approval will be needed, including:
