The launch of government’s new industrial strategy

In its aim to “build a Britain fit for the future”, the Government has launched its new industrial strategy. The aim is to “create an economy that boosts productivity and earning power throughout the UK”.

The white paper sets out a long-term strategy specifying 5 foundations of productivity which align with the vision for a transformed economy, which are:

  1. Ideas
  2. People
  3. Infrastructure
  4. Business environment
  5. Places

The relevant provisions of the key policies for individuals within the construction industry include:

The industry will welcome the strategy as it is placing an emphasis on construction and engineering and identifies various “sector deals” with the aim of increasing productivity within the industry. Construction is included within the first category of “sector deals” and includes £170 million budgeted for the Transforming Construction challenge fund.
