‘Victoria Mayhew is very understanding and reassuring.’ Legal 500 [UK 2024]

Victoria is a dually qualified family solicitor and accredited family mediator.

One of just three accredited family solicitor/mediators in Ipswich, Victoria has built up a highly-reputed mediation practice at Prettys.

A member of Resolution, she is part of a group of family justice experts committed to seeking to settle family issues in a non-confrontational way.

Victoria trained at a top law firm in London and joined Prettys' family team as a solicitor in 2009. She became an Associate at the firm in 2017 and then Senior Associate in October 2021.

Qualifying as a family mediator in 2012, she was awarded Family Mediation Accreditation status by the Law Society in 2019.

As a solicitor, Victoria advises her clients on divorce, separation, financial arrangements, child matters, co-habitation and pre/post marital agreements.

Her recent work includes a complex international case in Dubai involving a large tax and pension issue.

Mediation

Victoria is a huge advocate of mediation and is committed to resolving family disputes outside the courtroom, wherever possible.

Her wealth of knowledge and experience also makes her the go-to choice as solicitor for those going through the mediation process.

“A huge benefit of mediation is its flexibility,” she said.

"Mediation ensures everyone is heard and the process is bespoke to each case.

“Mediation offers a much greater sense of control.

"It allows creative solutions between co-parents, with the children’s best interests as the focal point.”

As a mediator, she helps clients with issues arising from a relationship breakdown, including financial and childcare arrangements.

Most of Victoria’s mediation clients come to her on the recommendation of their solicitors.

Her recent work includes mediating on a case where talks between two separating parents had reached a stalemate.

They were on the brink of a court application, but mediation helped break this standoff.

This led to better co-operation between the two regarding their children and no need for lengthy, stressful and expensive court proceedings.

Her calm and measured approach allows both parties to feel heard and keeps the interests of any children at the heart of the process.

Victoria has been recommended by Legal 500, a client’s guide to solicitors providing cutting edge legal advice.

“Thank you again Victoria for all of your hard work, how well I was looked after during my divorce and your kindness; it still means a lot.” - Client
