The BBC has launched an inquiry into pay transparency due to staff calling for all salaries to be made public. Will Hutton, a former BBC journalist and editor of the Observer, will lead the inquiry which will involve listening to staff on “their views on disclosure and transparency around BBC staff pay, performance and reward” and he will look at whether there are links between pay transparency and performance and how pay transparency might affect internal and external labour markets. Further, the BBC has also commissioned a separate inquiry into pay transparency at its commercial subsidiaries. Both will report their findings to the BBC Executive Committee. The BBC has said that it wanted to adopt an approach to pay transparency in line with “best practice” in the public sector.... more
