Daniel Billson

WORK SYNOPSIS:

Daniel is a Partner in Prettys' Corporate Services department. 

EXPERTISE:

Daniel is an expert in corporate and commercial law and advises business owners on a wide variety of corporate matters which include, share and asset corporate transactions, employee ownership trust sales, management buyouts and company reorganisations. He also drafts, advises on, and negotiates a wide variety of commercial agreements on behalf of national and international clients.  Many of those contracts are of substantial value, sensitivity and importance to his clients and involve negotiations with lawyers and companies around the world. 

Daniel also works for banks and borrowers on secured lending matters, as well as advising on various intellectual property matters.

Daniel is an ambitious individual who has risen swiftly up the ranks at Prettys, since starting with the firm as a trainee in September 2010, to be promoted to Partner in April 2022.  Daniel is renowned for being approachable and for his collaborative, but firm, working style.

PERSONAL SYNOPSIS:

Daniel is a keen sportsman and in his spare time enjoys running and cycling as well as playing golf.  He also enjoys walking the Suffolk countryside with his family.

In his other roles, Daniel is also: 

• Vice-chair of trustees of ActivLives, which is a progressive, independent charity that helps people across Ipswich and Suffolk keep active and connected with their local community. The charity uses accessible sports and exercise to help teach people new skills and offer volunteering opportunities; and

• a legal mentor at Innovation Martlesham, which is an established high-tech cluster, headquartered at Adastral Park in Suffolk that offers an unrivalled set-up for innovative and forward-thinking ICT/Digital companies.

RECENT WORK:

Daniel’s recent work includes:

• Acting for the shareholders of Hertfordshire based, waste management and demolition business, Advanced Demolition Ltd on the sale of its business to Sun Environmental Services Group.

• Acting for the owners of civil engineering practice, Haydn Evans Consulting, on the sale of its business to its employees through an employee ownership trust.

• Advising and acting for an international data protection service provider in relation to many of its contract negotiations with domestic and overseas based clients.

• Acting for the shareholders of a leading Suffolk-based construction business on the sale of its business to its management team.

• Advising a UK distributor of an international scooter brand on numerous contracts with suppliers and its terms and conditions.

• Advising an international food and restaurant brand on its contracts with suppliers. 

AWARDS / ACHIEVEMENTS:

Daniel is recommended as a Next Generation Partner in the Legal 500 2024 edition.

In September 2022, he was recognised at the Insider Media Central and East Dealmakers Awards 2022 by being shortlisted for “Deal of the Year (below £10m)”.  Also, Daniel was recognised at the Insider Media Central and East Dealmakers Awards 2020 by being shortlisted for “Emerging Dealmaker of the Year”.
